• Choosing the Healthiest Foods for Your Family

Welcome! I am a mom of a busy 8 year old and an adventurous 6 year old. I also happen to work for a great company called NuVal. NuVal is a nutritional scoring system that rates foods on a scale of 1-100, based on how nutritious they are. We are implementing NuVal in grocery stores around the country.

NuVal may not be in your area yet. But I see the scores while they are "hot off the press" and because of that I am able to make better decisions about what to feed my family.

It’s Wordless Wednesday!  So, today I take the day off from blogging and let y’all do the talking.  My Southern drawl comes out because I snapped this photo down at Lowes Foods in North Carolina.  You’ll have to look very carefully to get this one.

Wow! If the NuVal Scores were not available, I would have no idea of the huge difference in nutritional value of these two items.

Red Machine is the way to go! Must be the pomegranates that help it score so high

    Hi,
I’m Lisa one of the registered dietitians over at NuVal. Yvette-the reason for the big difference is the “boost” in the juice is coming from flax seeds which not only add 3 g of fiber per serving, but also omega-3s. Dena, you’re also right in that the pomegranates also help out the score. The Red Machine contains pomegranate and cranberry juice, which the berry blast does not, and the Red Machine has higher values on some vitamins and minerals(like vitamin C). Flaxseeds (NuVal score 91) can be added to any juices or smoothies you might make at home. Phewph! So much for wordless Wendesday, hope this helps!

Wow! That’s a big difference!! I had no clue how thry score. Sadly, we dont have any grocery stores with Nuval yet. I live in east TN. C’mon and hurry up to get NuVal…we need it!! :) I’ve seen them at grocery stores. They look and sound yummy, but that’s a hefty price tag for a drink.
