• Choosing the Healthiest Foods for Your Family

Welcome! I am a mom of a busy 8 year old and an adventurous 6 year old. I also happen to work for a great company called NuVal. NuVal is a nutritional scoring system that rates foods on a scale of 1-100, based on how nutritious they are. We are implementing NuVal in grocery stores around the country.

NuVal may not be in your area yet. But I see the scores while they are "hot off the press" and because of that I am able to make better decisions about what to feed my family.

My Winter Tea

It’s a New Year, but are you really finished cleaning up your Christmas clutter?  I must say, I am lucky.  My husband and I are pretty much on the same wavelength when it comes to clutter.  We both hate it.  Believe me, it took us almost 14 years of marriage and one tumultuous house move to get to that same place, but we’re in the same zone when it comes to stuff and space.  We like our living space as clutter-free as we can make it, but we know we’re far from perfect so we tolerate each other’s not-so-clutter-free places (you should see our home offices right now.)  So that meant, that before we were singing Auld Lang Syne, we were both ready to start taking Christmas down.

There are still a couple of stray boxes, but they’ll get packed properly and up to the attic this weekend.

Yes, when Christmas is over, I’m ready to call it a holiday and move on.  With a few exceptions.

My Christmas Cards.  I love, love, love them.

The holidays are such a rush – and sometimes ten cards come in a day.  Now I take the time to really look at them.

Some years, they are up until February.

Then, there is the wreath on my front door.  I’m not ready to take it down.  This year it came from my Godmother (who is also my Great-Aunt).  She is a very practical, Yankee kind of lady and she sent it to me from Land’s End as a Christmas gift.  It arrived on Thanksgiving Eve.

And then of course, there are my festive planters that my husband assembled.  These are my favorites.    I could look at these until March.

But the most depressing this for me was when I got to my last box of Candy Cane Lane tea.

I love Celestial Seasonings Holiday Teas, and Candy Cane Lane is my personal fav.  It’s a naturally decaffeinated green tea with subtle seasonal flavors like cool peppermint, creamy vanilla and a dash of cinnamon.   I love this review from Tea Review Blog:

I’m not embarrassed to say it…this is my FAVORITE tea from Celestial Seasonings! I don’t care if it’s bagged, I don’t care if it’s cheap…I LOVE IT! The only bummer…it’s seasonal and not available year round.  I’m usually a fan of minty teas but this is more than mint.  It’s a creamy vanilla minty treat. It’s Decaf for those of you who look for Decaf teas; for those of you who don’t… give this a whirl regardless. I don’t usually go specifically for Decaf but this one is great!

Tea Review Blog is right.  Candy Cane Lane is hard to find.  When I spotted it at the grocery store at the beginning of the holiday season, I tried to stock up and then, poof!, it was gone!  We couldn’t find it anywhere!  And now, post-Christmas, I was down to my last precious few bags and I thought that there had to be a way to get more. After all, there is this new-fangled concept called the Internet.

So, I searched and up popped the Celestial Seasonings website - where they have plenty in stock.  My stash, which will get me through the rest of this cold New England Winter is on its way!

Tea, by the way, is not scored on the NuVal scale because it essentially has no nutrients.  Same thing goes for coffee, vinegar, spices less than 15 calories – things like that.

Question of the Day

What decoration or treasure from the holidays are you having the hardest time putting away?

OMG I love that tea!!! I buy it each year, too. The hardest thing for me to put away this year has been the tree. It’s still up. We were really late getting it put up this year and now I can’t seem to let it go. 2 weeks to enjoy a tree was not enough. But it’s coming down this weekend…I promised my husband. : )

Candy Cane tea is my 14 year old sons FAVORITE tea. He’s been a tea drinker since he was a little boy.
