• Choosing the Healthiest Foods for Your Family

Welcome! I am a mom of a busy 8 year old and an adventurous 6 year old. I also happen to work for a great company called NuVal. NuVal is a nutritional scoring system that rates foods on a scale of 1-100, based on how nutritious they are. We are implementing NuVal in grocery stores around the country.

NuVal may not be in your area yet. But I see the scores while they are "hot off the press" and because of that I am able to make better decisions about what to feed my family.

It’s Wordless Wednesday.  I am on the road today  – out visiting some NuVal  stores in Central Massachusetts with one of my favorite dietitians.  So, I really will be silent.  But I can’t wait to get back to check in and see what you all have said about today’s photo!  Have a great day!

Yesterday’s Winner

Phew!  That was tough!  For the record, here are the serving sizes:

  • Sesmark Sesame Thins: 8 crackers
  • Kashi Heart to Heart: 7 crackers
  • Reduced Fat Cheez-Its:  29 crackers (wow!)
  • Triscuit Original:  6 crackers

Congratulations to Lynn who writes the blog Sit. Stay. Cook.  You were the first person to get the answer right and so you’ve won the Cracker Giveaway.  Wow, I’m impressed!  Please send me an email at abetterbagofgroceries@gmail.com with your mailing address so that I can mail your prize out to you.  Thanks to everyone who guessed!

I wish energy drinks had never been created. As an ER nurse I have seen the awful side effects: tachycardia, anxiety, syncope, etc. that these cause all so people can “have energy”. I can’t pass complete judgement since I’m addicted to my coffee – but these are horrible chemicals and sugar in a can.

Is a 0 score possible? If so, I would think this product deserves it. Agreeing with @Amanda C on the problems caused by these drinks. I, too, work in a hospital.

I look at it and think UGH…..teenagers. My daughters friends think this drink helps them with their high school sports. I try to tell them it won’t….but I see so many of these laying around the high school fields. I wish it had never been created!

Ugh. For sure, I am so very-very glad, happy and thrilled that I do not drink booze. Never have. In my entire life (in college I worked in the professors cafeteria) was never drunk. There were plenty of goofies that I knew that did these dumb things. What a waste of money, time …. energy and definitely health.

Why is it necessary to even have alcohol? Senseless.

This stuff is disgusting, it tastes like chemicals. And to everyone who says they need the “energy”, a Starbucks coffee has the same ore more caffeine depending on size. Coffee isn’t great for you, it has a lot less chemicals than this junk drink! Don’t even get me started on mixing this with alcohol….
