• Choosing the Healthiest Foods for Your Family

Welcome! I am a mom of a busy 8 year old and an adventurous 6 year old. I also happen to work for a great company called NuVal. NuVal is a nutritional scoring system that rates foods on a scale of 1-100, based on how nutritious they are. We are implementing NuVal in grocery stores around the country.

NuVal may not be in your area yet. But I see the scores while they are "hot off the press" and because of that I am able to make better decisions about what to feed my family.

Mystery Market

Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 06:57 AM

Let’s play a guessing game today!  Yesterday, I traveled out to visit one of our newest supermarket retailers to come on board with NuVal.  They are planning to launch NuVal scores in all their stores in September, but they haven’t announced this in the press yet, so I can’t tell you who it is.

I can let you guess though!

Here are some clues.

I drove there – in my car.

They have a lovely produce section.

Yum.  I bought some locally grown blueberries before I left.

They also have a great specialty foods section.

Lots of interesting things to try!

But I was here to check out one thing – their shelf tag!

It looks awesome, doesn’t it?

So, who do you think this Mystery Market is?

No clue! But I’ll guess Wegmans…even though I’ve never stepped foot in a Wegmans.

I’m also thinking Hannaford’s – hopefully the one in Waltham!

I would LOVE for it to be my local Stop & Shop or Shaws….but I think I might be dreaming on that – so I am going to go further away and guess the Big Y in Walpole (just drove past there yesterday).

    Stop & Shop?

I have no idea. The only grocery stores in my area are United, Walmart, and Lowes, and the only other grocery stores I know about in Texas are Kroger, the HEB family, the rest of the United family, Whole Foods, and ALDI.

I would guess Hannaford or Sudbury Farms/Roche Bros.

This is very cool! I really like the NuVal system and was wishing it was on the package, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. I made your cool chinese vermicelli last night and it was delish! Love cold and spicy noodles.

I know you shop at Stop N Shop, so I’m saying them. But, I wish it were Shaw’s because that’s close to me. Better yet – I wish it were Hannaford’s because I shop there (across the street from Shaw’s), but I doubt it because they have their own system already.

Not sure about the store…but I love the Stonewall kitchen products. My maiden name is Stonewall so I love getting their products as gifts for my parents!

Good question, Chris! Our retailer-partners typically start to put their shelf tags up before they launch to the press and to their customers. That way, when they do make their big announcement, the scores will be up in the store when their customers and the media go looking for them!
