Trade-Up Tuesday: Central Market Classics
Hello Bloggies! It’s Trade-Up Tuesday a very popular day here on A Better Bag of Groceries where I blog about a Trade-Up I’ve made since learning about NuVal and I give away free stuff to one lucky reader.
Today’s GiveAway was inspired by my recent trip to Price Chopper. Whenever I have the opportunity to visit one of the retailers who has NuVal scores on shelf (Price Chopper, Hy-Vee, Meijer, United Texas and Kroger of Lexington, KY), I always take some time to roam the aisles and look for interesting products that have high NuVal scores. I always find something new and this most recent trip was no exception.
The Lucky Winner who wins this GiveAway will have all the makings of a lovely dinner, from appetizer to dessert.
First, the Lucky Winner will begin with tasty bruschetta.
Just spoon this Central Market Classics (that’s Price Chopper’s specialty store brand) Bruschetta on to some crusty bread and you are in business. Note that high score of 52!
Next, Lucky Winner will enjoy a delicious main course of chicken simmered in Central Market Classics Green Olive Tapenade (NuVal score of 57) and served over Central Market Classics Whole Wheat Spaghetti (NuVal score of 89).
This recipe idea comes from Price Chopper’s own Bill Drake, Merchandising Program Specialist. Thanks, Bill!
I suggest a nice, crisp green salad to round out your main meal.
In keeping with the spicy nature of this meal, Lucky Winner will finish out the evening with Lindt’s Chili Dark Chocolate which gets a NuVal score of 14. I recommend pairing it with some sliced fresh fruit to balance out your taste buds.
So, there you have it! While Lucky Winner will have to supply the crusty bread, chicken, salad greens and fresh fruit (those items would not travel through the US Mail so well), he or she will enjoy a delicious and high-scoring meal.
How to Enter:
Leave a comment telling me your favorite three-course meal (appetizer, main course, and dessert). Leave a 2nd comment with a surprising or interesting NuVal score (you can find some on this blog, on Trading Up Downtown, or on the NuVal site) and you will be entered twice! The Lucky Winner will be drawn at random at 10 am EDT Wednesday. Good Luck!

I love it when store brands get high scores. Confession? I cheer for the store brands when I shop at my NuVal stores…I want them to be the best thing on the shelf!
My favorite 3 course meal? Salad, salmon, followed by a fruit and cheese plate. Really!
I find the chocolate score in this very post surprising! I demand a recount! HA!

My favorite three course meal has to be what we had for Easter:
Salad with balsamic vinaigrette
Baked Ziti
Angel Food Cake with wipped cream and strawberries!
Yummy!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 8:39 am
Fresh salad with goat cheese, steak and asparagus as the main course and finally a nice little piece of dark chocolate. I love the chili flavor. I’m dying to try the sea salt flavor or one of the customized bars that I’ve seen around the blog world.
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 8:48 am
I like a caprese salad starter, a fliet mignon main course, and German chocolate cake for dinner.
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 8:48 am
And I love that bananas, which I eat every day, get a NuVal score of 91.
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 8:55 am
It is so hard to pick my favorite! I recently had an amazing baked brie appetizer topped with honey and slivered almonds and served with fruit and bread. For my main course I’d have to go with a filet mignon, which is my favorite “special occasion” entree. Dessert would be frozen yogurt!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:01 am
I’ve been eating pineapple a lot lately and I was surprised to see that it scores a 99! Now I will definitely be buying it every week.
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:28 am
Fried calamari, steak and chocolate cake, not the healthiest but it’s a treat meal
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:29 am
Bananas, that score always amazes me!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:32 am
my favorite three course meal…
1. fresh green salad with strawberries and walnuts on top
2. chicken parm!
3. frozen yogurt (if it’s nice out, we’ll go to the froyo store, but if not, we’ll just get it out of the fridge!)
all meals should end with frozen yogurt, in my opinion
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:32 am
it always surprises me that just with the added frosting, plain shredded wheat (91) goes down to a score of 31 (frosted shredded wheat)
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:33 am
My three course meal would be salad, grilled salmon, and ice cream
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:34 am
I am amazed that Kashi TLC Tasty Little Chewy Oatmeal cookies score a 40!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:35 am
My favorite three course meal would be salad, filet mignon with baked potatoes and broccoli and ice cream for dessert! YUMMO!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:37 am
I’m surprised that the Ghiardelli Twilight Delight scores a 21 when the Lindt’s Chili Dark Chocolate gets a NuVal score of 14. Weird….. I’m glad NuVal figures this stuff out for us!

I was surprised to see that oat bran scored higher than oatmeal!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 11:26 am
Salad, burger, and a brownie sundae!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 11:39 am
Empanadas, grilled shrimp with lemon, garlic, and parsley, and for dessert, dark chocolate! I’m already humgry!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 11:47 am
Wow, my favorite three course meal is actually really similar to the one you are giving away! Green salad (throwing every veggie I can find in there), pasta with some kind of jarred red sauce (which I usually doctor up with sauteed mushrooms, onion, and garlic) and pieces of dark chocolate for dessert. It’s what my family eats every Friday night.
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 11:49 am
Next, for my surprising NuVal score: Del Monte Quality Sweet Bavarian Style Sauerkraut with Caraway Seeds (canned) with a score of…2? I thought sauerkraut was so good for you! Maybe too much salt?
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 11:58 am
chips & salsa, a big burger, and a beer for dessert! haha. so bad.
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 11:59 am
1- fried okra (or fried anything…onion rings, fried squash, fried green tomatoes….)
2- red curry with tofu
3- cookie cake!
That probably sounds like the craziest meal ever!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 12:01 pm
My favorite 3 course meal would have to be an all-Greek favorite at a local restaurant: Calamari (not breaded and deep-fried, but sauteéd with onions, spinach, tomatoes, LOTS of garlic and olive oil), Chicken Gyro with roasted potatoes on the side and some baklava for dessert. So delicious!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 12:05 pm
Carrot salad, grilled salmon, and strawberries with homemade fresh whipped cream! Super delicious!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 12:06 pm
And, best of all, strawberries score a Nuval score of 100! How sweet it is!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 12:12 pm
Spinach Salad, Eggplant Parm, and a few pieces of dark chocolate with strawberries
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 12:12 pm
WOW…strawberries score 100! That’s awesome!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 12:41 pm
One of my favorite three course meals would be a salad (arugula, shaved parmesan, pecans, beets, lemon dressing), sauteed scallops with cream sauce, grains, and rapini, and creme brulee with berries for dessert. And of course, wine

My fav 3 course meal would be grilled endive with balsamic & goat cheese, a veggie filled salad topped with grilled chicken and strawberry shortcake.
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 2:01 pm
I find it so interesting that the NuVal score for flavored yogurt and plain greek yogurt are so dramatically different. Using add-ins to flavor my plain greek yogurt has become a creative endeavor!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 2:04 pm
3 course meal would include a tomato salad, red snapper and fresh fruit with of course, a glass or red wine!
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 2:23 pm
I can’t believe that Dark choc is only 21…shouldn’t it be more
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 2:25 pm

on Apr 6th, 2010 at 2:51 pm
I had no idea pineapples were so high scoring on Nuval
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 5:19 pm
I love shrimp cocktail, salmon and apple crisp. I think shrimp and salmon score high and then the apples are great with a Nuval score of 96 I think……but it’s the crisp that kills it.
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 8:11 pm
my favorite 3course meal consists of:
1 salad with ginger & sesame sauce
2 salmon or shrimp dish
3 icecream and brownie
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 8:12 pm
Berries = 100!! yay!
But if berries like blueberries are 100,
where does that put those “super”foods like acai berry? and goji?
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:15 pm
I would have crab legs, lobster and fruit cobbler for dessert.
on Apr 6th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
Those Kashi scores are crazy, I really thought Kashi would score higher on the NuVal charts
on Apr 7th, 2010 at 8:10 am
My favorite 3 course meal:
1. butternut squash soup
2. shrimp or scallop dish
3. molten chocolate cake
on Apr 7th, 2010 at 9:26 am
My favorite three course meal: 1) Veggies and hummus or a spring mix salad, 2) Rice and beans (I’m simple, what can I say), 3) A fruit tart – yum!
on Apr 7th, 2010 at 9:28 am
As per Nuval- I’m surprised at how low the Green Giant veggie steamers score because of the cheese sauce. I’m familiar with this product because I used to buy it often and it’s low in calories, tastes good, and there are often coupons available for it. However, after seeing the scores on the Nuval site, I’d be more likely to buy fresh veggies instead and take the 5 extra minutes to steam it myself.
